When we started with remote sensing for soils at the UCLouvain in 2003, we had to rely on airborne hyperspectral campaigns organized every two years by the Belgian Science policy STEREO programme. Since then, the availability and quality of optical satellite remote sensing such as the Sentinel 2 multispectral instrument have dramatically changed the paradigm for soil mapping and monitoring.
The WORLDSOILS project has accomplished the Acceptance Review (AR) Meeting with the European Space Agency (ESA), held on the 10th and 11th of November 2022 at GMV Aerospace in Tres Cantos, Madrid. The AR successfully closes Phase 2 of the Earth Observation based Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) monitoring system. Meeting discussions counted with the participation of all team members and the Steering Committee members (JRC, EEA, DG DEFIS, AgroParisTech).
