Workshop Announcement

The WORLDSOILS User Requirement Consolidation Workshop will take place 30 June 2021.

The User Requirement Consolidation Workshop is performed in the frame of the WORLDSOILS project and the main objective is to involve internationally renowned experts, end users (with soil organic carbon monitoring needs), research and policy bodies, in the consolidation of a user requirement baseline for the implementation of a SOC monitoring system based on Earth Observation (EO) satellite data.

This event will be attended by stakeholders from EU government bodies, regulators, academia and industry with high interest on soils monitoring and will gain understanding of the existing SOC requirements (from EU policy and end-user perspectives), the enablers and barriers appearing when using EO technologies for SOC prediction. Additionally, the attendants will have the opportunity to participate in the discussion about the adequacy of the user requirements identified by the project team and also propose new user needs that could be incorporated in the baseline (after a conciliation of the user needs, feasibility and project timeframe).

Documentation review

The stakeholders will be invited in advance to participate in the review of the documents generated by the project team: User Requirement Document (URD) and Requirements Baseline Document (RBD). These documents will be circulated among the participants (together with a review procedure description) the first week of June as input data package for the Workshop discussions. Reviewing these documents is not mandatory but recommended in order to identify questions in advance and suggestions for improvements that would be discussed during the Workshop.

Expected Outcomes

  • Identify any barriers, including institutional and policy barriers that would hinder the use of EO technologies for SOC monitoring.
  • Identify other alternatives to solve known problems applying EO for SOC prediction and digital soil modelling.
  • Identify additional requirements not considered by the project team yet.
  • Reach a consensus (to the maximum extent) on a consolidated requirements baseline covering most of the user needs

Participants

This event is restricted to project stakeholders and project team members only. If you are interested in engaging with the project, please read the “Contact Us” section in our stakeholder page.

Organisers

The organization of the workshop is led by GMV Aerospace & Defence supported by their partners in the WORLDSOILS consortium: ISRIC World Soil Information, DLR (German Aerospace Center), AUTh (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), GFZ (Helmholtz-Zentrum Postdam), UCL (Univeristé Catholique de Louvain), CZU (Czech University of Life Sciences Prague) and TAU (Tel-Aviv University).
